How the program works
The BSA Scout program is run by Youth Leaders. The Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) conducts weekly Scout meetings with the guidance of adult volunteers.
If you are interested in becoming an adult volunteer, please fill out the form in the link above and turn it in to the New Member Coordinator. There are adult volunteer opportunities that can meet every willing individual’s availability and/or ability. Please consider to help the Troop as members age out we loose leaders and we need new leaders to keep the Troop moving forward. Remember you must be a registered leader with the Troop to go on Troop activities.
Don’t worry, BSA and the other adult volunteers will provide support and training along the way.
When the program takes place
Troop 1001 meets on Monday nights in the Family Life Center at Bay Point Church, 208 Palm Ave, Nokomis from 7:00 pm to 8:30 PM and the Scouting program runs in conjunction with the Sarasota County School calendar. When school is in session, Scouting activities take place and when school is not in session, like during Spring Break or other scheduled school holidays, then BSA Scout Troops do not meet.
Troop 1001 maintains a calendar, approved by the Troop Committee, with dates of Troop meetings, Courts of Honor, Council events, Troop Campouts and other fun activities the Scouts will participate in.
To keep the Scouting spirit alive all year long, scouts can earn advancements and merit badges by participating in a Troop or Council Scheduled events during the summer.
Scouts are also encouraged to participate in the week-long summer camp, where they will earn valuable skills and make lifelong memories.
TROOP Communication
Communication is the key to success in any organization and it is no different in Scouting. Troop 1001 uses several methods of communication including Email, Scoutbook, Website, and Facebook. Patrol leaders (youth) might use texted messages and or GroupeMe messages to communicate directly with their Patrol.
It is important that we have current contact information on file with a preferred way to communicate.
Many of our Troop communications will be sent through Scoutbook, so it is very important that scout families become familiar with scoutbook and have up to date contact information on their account. You can register for a Scoutbook account by clicking the link in the title
Social media is a great way to get information out to a broader audience.
BSA Troop 1001 posts information about fun events coming up or events we have participated in to showcase the achievements of our Scouts. Facebook is a great way to keep up with what is happening in our troop and to share the great things we are doing with friends who might be interested in joining Scouts BSA.
